CBD Accepting Summer Staff Applications: If you love camp and enjoy working with kids, nothing is better than working at Camp Blue Diamond, and getting paid too. A head cook, counselors, maintenance & kitchen workers, a naturalist, lifeguard, ropes/tower director, and crafts director are all needed. Applicants must be at least 18 yrs. old (head cook at least 21, kitchen & maintenance at least 16), be committed Christians, enjoy children & youth and be able to live in harmony with others. Being a part of camp staff is a great experience. Staff members grow in faith as well as leadership and communication skills. For those interested in teaching, ministry or social work (or just being a parent someday), it’s terrific on the job training too! Pay is based on experience and begins at $185/week + room & board (all the food you can eat). Summer camp runs from June 10 – July 28 (longer for some kitchen & maintenance positions). Meet the Fulltime Staff of CBD: Dean and Jerri Heiser Wenger are the Executive Co-Directors of Camp Blue Diamond and have held this position since 1991. Jerri is an ordained minister in the Church of the Brethren and oversees programming and ACA accreditation. Dean oversees business operations. Both Dean and Jerri are Visitor Trainers and Visitors for the American Camp Association, and Dean is on the Steering Committee for the Church of the Brethren's Outdoor Ministry Association. Dean and Jerri are members of the Stone Church of the Brethren in Huntingdon. Before coming to CBD, Jerri worked as the Assistant Director and Program Director at Camp Inspiration Hills in Ohio, and as an Admissions Counselor for Manchester College. Dean worked four summers on the staff of Woodland Altars and Inspiration Hills as a counselor, naturalist and outdoor school instructor, and taught mathematics in the public school system for six years. The Wengers have three grown sons. The youngest son Laban works summers at CBD as the Ropes Director. Photo:(Left to Right) Paul Witkovsky is CBD's Facilities Director. Paul oversees all construction and renovation projects at camp. He also oversees building, road and grounds maintenance. Paul worked at CBD in the mid 80's as a volunteer, and then joined the fulltime staff in 1991. Paul is a member of the Roaring Spring Church of the Brethren. He and his wife Julie have two daughters. Paul enjoys golfing and does much of the leg work for the annual Brethren Open Golf Tournament. Deb Glenny is CBD's Food Service Director. Deb oversees kitchen ordering and operations. When Deb is not in the Kitchen, she works in the camp office. Deb has worked at CBD since the mid 80's. She loves to quilt, and is a member of Faith United Methodist in Manor Hill. She and her husband Jeff live in Petersburg with their blonde Lab Angel. Brian Bert is CBD’s Program Director. He is a graduate of West Virginia University and has served as PD since January 2008. Before becoming CBD's Program Director, Brian served on the summer staff as a counselor. Brian is responsible for training and overseeing the summer program staff and planning all the fun things that happen at summer camp. Brian is a member of the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren. During the offseason, Brian oversees several retreats, and helps with housekeeping, maintenance and kitchen duties. Brian and his wife Alyssa live at Camp Blue Diamond. Nick Neal is CBD's Campground Director. Nick is a graduate of PSU Altoona and has served on the fulltime staff since 2005. Nick oversees the RV Campground from May through October. During the rest of the year, He helps with housekeeping, maintenance and kitchen duties. Nick is a Leader for the Middle PA District's Youth Ministry Team, and plays the organ for several area churches. He is a member of the Roaring Spring Church of the Brethren.
